About reverse DNS
What is reverse DNS?
Normal DNS turns a domain into an IP. Reverse DNS does the opposite, turning an IP into a hostname using a PTR record.
Why is no hostname found?
PTR records are optional and set by whoever owns the IP block, usually the ISP or hosting provider. Many home connections have none.
Why does reverse DNS matter for email?
Mail servers often check that a sending IP has a matching PTR record. A missing or mismatched one can push your email into spam.
