What is a DNS record?

DNS records tell the internet where a domain lives and how it should be used, such as which server hosts the website and where email should be delivered.

What do A and AAAA records do?

An A record points a domain to an IPv4 address. An AAAA record points it to an IPv6 address.

What is an MX record?

MX records name the mail servers that accept email for the domain, with a priority number. Lower numbers are tried first.

Why do changes take time to appear?

Each record has a TTL (time to live) that tells resolvers how long to cache it. Changes show up everywhere once old cached copies expire.
